Cone-shaped separator

For many years of operation of ore-dressing and processing enterprises there clustered a great deal of waste materials left after ore-dressing treatment.
Only at Volnogorsk mining and smelting enterprise waste materials of worked over titanium-zirconium stock amounts to more than 120 million tons and occupies the area of 700 hectares. In Krivoy Rog basin there have been piled up 25 billion tons of waste. And all this stores as ‘ a dead weight’. And although this waste is called ‘tails’, these ‘tails’ contain up to 12-20% of iron. At the same time, the deposits of magnetite ores which form the raw materials base for domestic ore-dressing and processing enterprises are gradually petering while the technology of oxidized ore concentration is still the matter of future time.

Essentially new method of concentration of off-balance (base) ores, coal fines, as well as a retreatment of ‘tails’ is possible with the use of highly efficient equipment – Cone-shaped separators.

Design of separators is covered by a certificate of authorship and patent rights of Ukraine and Russian Federation.

A new technology is a way to solving a lot of burning problems:
• the level of supply of domestic enterprises with industrial mineral raw material is being increased;
• the demand for volume gain of crop and primary treatment of ores and coal is decreased;
• the environmental problems are solved due to the cleaning of ‘tailstores’ that litter the landscape;
• the new technology eliminates floatation so the environment does not suffer;
• the first cost of concentrates is decreased due to the reduction of power consumption.

Due to the high performance, low capital costs and operational expanses with the applicatin of cone-shaped separators it has become possible to efficiently treat base mineral raw materials: off-balanced ores and waste of last years’ concentration (tails) stocked in tail stores.

Cone-shaped separators can be used at floatation dressing factories for extraction a complex of minerals from tails that have not been extracted by a floatation method including precious metals.

The cone-shaped separators are especially effective for treatment of titanium-zirconium, tin, wolfram, plumbum-zinc, chromium, tantalum and niobium ores.

The use cone-shaped separators is rather perspective for treatment of tails of processing plants since the tail resources in some countries amount to billions of tons.

At coal-preparation plants cone-shaped separators can by used for concentration of coal fines category 2 mm.

Cone-shaped separators can also be used at iron ore plants for increasing the quality of concentrates.

Generally speaking, the advantages of gravity cone separation – economically beneficial and ecologically clean – are obvious. So on a scale of a huge and very important for the country branch of the industry an efficient manager can save a lot of resources due to the materials that are literally ‘under our feet’.
